I watched A Mighty Wind this morning. Not the most laugh-out-loud comedy of the mockumentory series (This Is Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman, Best In Show) but for some reason I really bonded with the characters and enjoyed it immensely. The music is certainly the best part. He walks a fine line between reproducing the spirit of folk music and mocking it.

I watched Suicide Kings on DVD last night with [livejournal.com profile] lipzapart at her place. The plot is a little complicated: a girl is kidnapped and held for a large ransom. Her friends kidnap a mafia boss and refuse to let him go until he helps them get the girl back.

It's a good story, with a lot of good twists. I enjoyed it. (It had some bloody scenes, so be warned.)

While the plot had nothing to do with the movie 1982 film Diner but both films have something in common: they both starred a bunch of relatively unknown actors (except 0 or 1 really big names) who all became very famous in the next project that they did. One guy went on to be the crazy brother in Six Feet Under. In other words, these are the performances that got them noticed and booked for the project that made them big. I love that kind of movie.

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/03/30/opinion/30KRUG.html: Paul Krugman writes about how Bush defends his policies by smearing anyone that speaks out against him rather than addressing the person's points. Not in small ways, but in ways that are starting to test the limits of democracy.
Where will it end? In his new book, "Worse Than Watergate," John Dean, of Watergate fame, says, "I've been watching all the elements fall into place for two possible political catastrophes, one that will take the air out of the Bush-Cheney balloon and the other, far more disquieting, that will take the air out of democracy."

Those of you that have access to my private blog know that I've been interviewing with a lot of companies, including one that is based in Maryland but has a key office 4 blocks from my house here in NJ. Yesterday I received a verbal job offer for Director of IT at that company. Today I accepted it. This is a really big step up for me, and I'm really looking forward to starting.

(who you haven't seen in 10 years, and hadn't seen for 10 years prior to that).
Then you realize that you have many of the same interests.
Then you discover that she's brilliant at analysis of B5 episodes.

Donate to Kerry's campaign using this link to have the donation marked as being part of the GLLC team. (Gay/Lesbian Leadership Counsel).

Oh, and before you ask, I don't think Bush has a GLLC equivalent. :-)
