The CNN report did an excellent job, IMHO, of explaining the basic issues. The couple should be given an award for their media savvy, as they were plain spoken, convincing, and kept it personal. I highly recommend watching the video.

The final words about why it isn't for everyone were very well spoken. The reason my marriage fell apart is that my husband wanted polyamory to be about him sleeping with whomever he wanted whenever he wanted, regardless of how I felt about it. At which point you no longer have a marriage. The people I know for whom polyamory works are those who maintain their central committment as the most important thing.

Very interesting video.

I've been in two polyamorous relationships. The first one was a "Heinlein marriage" where the woman literally got me drunk and shoved me into the bedroom with her husband, and the second was two best friends (male), each of whom knew about the other and initially approved of the open relationship. Neither worked for different reasons.

My husband observed when this came up the other day that there has to be at least friendship respect between all parties involved, and preferably love. A two-on-one situation will devolve quickly, but if all three (or more) respect themselves (a biggie!!!) as well as each other, are scrupulously honest and communicative, it certainly can work.

I am aligned with Vanic gods (known for their polyamorous ways) and therefore mentally and spiritually capable of polyamory, but my husband and I have agreed that monogamy is the best course for the both of us going forward. He is more comfortable with that, and as I am rather comfortable with him, that's the way it stays. As for the "shamanic practitioner" aspect of things, well, what happens in the Otherworld stays in the Otherworld. ;-7

Well let's put it this way. If it was gonna happen, THAT was HOW it was gonna have to happen. I was a bit uptight in those days. There's more to the story but it gets religious.

That's awesome! That's the first time I've actually seen a real poly couple on a major news program. I've seen a few shows that claim to be about polyamory but were really about polygamy (usually one man with multiple female partners). I love that they said "to keep it simple, stick with monogamy".

That was a really nice exposition. Thanks for pointing it out.
