Republicans always talk about “the responsibility of your actions”. They blame the poor for not working hard enough, the hungry for not ... I dunno, maybe owning a gun and hunting for their own food. So I guess they’ll take full responsibility for the disaster in New Orleans:

Here it is: the money to maintain the levees was apparently yanked away for the same reason half the Louisiana National Guard was.

We may never know if the levees would have held if the funding hadn’t been shifted to Iraq. But if so, there would be only one conclusion:

New Orleans has become a casualty of the war in Iraq.

Horrible. Unthinkable. But read the article. Tom Tomorrow has some commentary to which I add: I bet $50 that if the city is destroyed a major religious figure will publicly blame the sin of the city and claim the flood was God’s work. The usual Republican “we don’t support that statement, but we support that statement”-crap will then go full throttle.

If I had to guess, most republicans would say funding for these projects is the responsibility of the state, not the federal government, and would call building out levees in Louisiana with federal dollars "Pork".

Unless, the levee is on federal land...
