[ Note: I got this from the Kerry campaign. These three people are really fighting against Bush and need our support. If we all give up a few Starbucks coffees in the next week, we can afford to give each $10. The power of a million people giving $10 each is greater than a few people giving the same amount. It builds the movement. It breaks down the big-business power base. It is more patriotic and more democratic. (I have a lot more to Casey, since he’s running against Santorum, the evil homophobe in the adjacent state. --Tom ]

We have less than 12 hours to act. The critical June 30th fundraising deadline arrives at midnight tonight. We need to act today to stop the Republicans who control Washington from trying to completely take over the Senate and shut out those who fight for you every day. I’m urging you to act by rushing an immediate donation to one or more of three vitally important Senate campaigns.

Contribute to Challenger Casey
Contribute to Senator Conrad
Contribute to Senator Byrd

Senator Kent Conrad and Senator Robert Byrd have been strong independent voices in the Senate - leaders who consistently use their seniority and savvy to put the interests of the people ahead of the special interests. Bob Casey is on track to stop Rick Santorum’s bid for re-election in Pennsylvania. Let’s put together a powerful show of strength. Let’s make it clear to Republicans dead set on defeating these candidates that we’ll do whatever it takes to help them win.

In order to unseat Senator Rick Santorum in Pennsylvania, one of President Bush’s top lieutenants, we need to send as much support as possible to Democratic candidate Bob Casey who will replace the right-wing agenda with common sense solutions.

Contribute to Challenger Casey

Senator Conrad, in his position as ranking member on the Senate Budget Committee, has led the fight against President Bush’s distorted policies that favor tax cuts for the rich, have produced devastating record budget deficits, and have threatened the safety net for the middle class.

Contribute to Senator Conrad

And Senator Byrd has been targeted by President Bush for defeat because he has defended the Constitution and the system of checks and balances from the Washington Republicans who seek absolute power over the federal government. We need Senator Byrd’s courageous voice in the Senate.

Contribute to Senator Byrd

We’re pulling out all the stops to help Senate candidates locked in the toughest races. And nobody needs or deserves your support more than the leaders I’ve mentioned.

Give to one of them - or better still, donate to all three. But, whatever you do, act now.

Since Rick Santorum is such an evil bastard (especially toward 'sexual minorities'), I made my contribution to Bob Casey. I encourage others to join me.

Thanks, Tom. I want to put in a special word for Senator Byrd. He's one of the best friends West Virginia ever had, and I'm a member of the fourth generation of my family to have the privilege of voting for him. I haven't always agreed with him; he's actually a fairly conservative democrat. But he's being targeted because of his strong criticism of the Bush administration. Check out his book "Losing America" for a good look at how this administration is attacking the system of checks and balances. He's known as the Senate historian, and no one knows and reveres the Constitution more.

Moreover, his opponent, Shelley Moore Capito, began her political career using her father's fortune. Her father, Arch Moore, was the WV governor who did time for embezzling from the state's coffers.

If we all give up a few Starbucks coffees in the next week....

Are those your words, or is that found in Democratic fundraising literature?

This isn't a criticism, but an observation. By making the implication that every Democrat has a discressionary income where they drink several Grande sized latte every week goes right to the core of why democrats have problems reaching mainstream americans. It's like saying, "Don't drive your hybrid car for a week", or "For the cost of your TiVO in the guest room...."

My words.

I hate coffee too. ...which is why I always use "giving up coffee" as an example of getting a little discressionary income to fund good projects.

I once met with a salesguy for a network management solution, who described his product as "For the price of a pizza a day, for one month, you could have X watching your network."

That never made any sense to me, because it never clarified whether it was frozen or delivery, plus it sounds like I want the choice of either managing my network, OR eating pizza. I was giggling at him underneath my breath.

Although I don't agree with Casey's stance on choice, I am already working for his campaign. That's my contribution to getting rid of Santorum. I can't even think straight from anger when it comes to that guy.

But did you notice that lately he's been putting out all these "touchy-feelie" things? Legislation against puppy mills (which are horrible, yes, but so are starving constituents!) and such... I think he's going to pull out as many of these things as he can just before the election hoping we'll forget things like his stance on Shaivo, gays, Church in politics, etc.
