Yahoo services
Apr. 22nd, 2002 11:23 amMy friends are complaining that Yahoo!'s email service now charges $$ if you want to use POP.
MY PREDICTION: By the end of next year nearly every feature on Yahoo will have a free component and a "pay to get the special features" component. I presume they'll eventually have packages deals and such.
They stated that they'd be doing this since day 1. Anyone that thought they could do it all on banner adverts is sorely informed. GUESS WHAT? RUNNING COMPUTER SERVICES COSTS MONEY.
I this a "free for basic, charge for extras" platform is an excellent business model. As a result, I'm going to continue offering my free regular service plus I'll be adding my new $10 "value added" service. For the low price of $9.95/month people will receive higher priority replies to a person's email, 20% more correct answers when I'm asked questions, and I'll talk louder when I'm physically present talking with them. Other value-added features will be announced in the coming months. Like Tivo, we'll be offering a discount to people that pay an entire year in advance, and a special "lifetime membership" price. Payment via PayPal will be accepted.
