I'm tired of being one of those people that shows up to potlucks and cookouts with store-bought food. However, I don't cook much or well. (Well, not completely true... my baked chicken gets rave reviews.... but I digress). Anyway, in an attempt to get myself out of the store-bought-stuff-at-potlucks rut, I decided to become good at making one thing, and making it all the time for potlucks and parties that I attend. I'd be my, um, signature dish? yeah, that's the ticket.

So lately I've been making gelatine. I make gelatine from scratch... I use fruit juice and Knox unflavored gelatine. People are usually pretty surprised that it can be made from scratch... I guess they assume that Bill Cosby has some magical potion that creates the yucky powder that makes the fake-tasting Jello products. Yes, its just hot water, hot juice, cold juice, and unflavored powdered gelatine. I think it tastes significantly better than Jello-brand gelatine.

So tonight I'm making gelatine for a party tomorrow. I decided to make Lemon (and I hope you all understand the humor in this). However, rather than buying lemonade, I found Never Bitter Lemonade on www.AllRecipes.com and spent the evening making it from fresh lemons, sugar, water, and their secret ingredient for reducing the bitterness. When it's done I'll use it to make the gelatine.

We'll see how it turns out tomorrow!

Party tomorrow-does that mean you're not coming to the dance? :-(

It's in the afternoon. We're going to try to make it to the dance. We have the DP celebration in the morning, then a friend's cookout, then we're going to try to drive to the dance if we're not exhausted!

It's too late to call and ask for a recipie just now, but my mom makes an absolutely amazing lemon gelatine/mousse combination dish that's pretty straightforward to make, and always gets rave reviews, if you're interested...

Ha. Lemon jello, yes, of course. If you don't get a few groans and looks, I shall be disappointed.

I actually am quite familiar with unflavored gelantine, as it's a useful baking additive for GFCF foods for Brendan.

I'm always rather surprised that Jello (let alone gelatine from scratch) is so easy to make at all, since my mom for some reason is incapable of getting it to set up correctly.

Incidentally, Knox was my hair-product of choice in my synchronized swimming days.
