After the C-SPAN post
Jan. 16th, 2004 09:39 amA little while later someone came though telling everyone to go to the office's lobby (the only space big enough for everyone to meet). I'd never experienced an "all hands meeting" before, and it was quite a rush. Everyone crammed in a small space. Trippi was on the road so someone else spoke. He addressed the entire group of HQ volunteers and staff. He talked about the power of the campaign, how support was pouring out from all corners, and that this isn't just about electing a president, this is really re-shaping the face of politics. He said he'd worked on 6 presidential campaigns (5 lost, the other was Carter) and he's never seen so many people involved so early.
There I was, standing in this huge crowd, late at night, phones still ringing. I paused to look around and realized that I was standing next to Zepher Teachout (who I've not yet been formally introduced to). He talked about the power of our Perfect Storm strategy in Iowa and how we're going to win because we are touching people. That reminded me about the project I'm on and how it fits into that. It's isn't fluff or marketing hype; this campaign really is different.
At the end of the speech we all gave a big cheer and went back to work. I think I worked until about 1am that night.
