i have a plain old first generation iPhone for sale (since I'm going to buy a 3G). This is the kind that can still be jacked to run 3rd party apps, talk to other carriers, etc.

How much would you pay?

(no, really, only reply if you are making an offer)

On ebay, I'm seeing more than $400 for similar items.

I'll give you a dollar. That's probably a dollar more than I should be paying for it.

Since the 3G now starts at $199, I probably wouldn't pay more than $100 for a first gen. But the ability to jailbreak it is less important to me. Plus I expect someone to figure out how to jailbreak the 3Gs anyway. :-)

(This is a serious offer, though I recognize it may be way outside of your acceptable range. I'm not trying to be insulting, just want to explain why I'd be willing to spend what I am.)

Sorry, not a bid, but I feel I should tell you the problem I'm having with my 3G iPhone. Virtually every incoming call results in "Call Failed" if I attempt to answer it. Following this failure, I have to reboot the phone before I can call out or receive any new incoming call (which will of course probably require yet another reboot if I try to answer it). There are many complaints about call failures on the new iPhones. Somehow the behavior I'm seeing on mine seems to be slightly different than what most people are reporting on the Apple forums. Somehow I didn't hear about any of this before buying mine, so I'm trying to spread the word.

1) thanks for the advice!

2) I was happiest using a Palm Treo and DateBk VI. When I moved to the iPhone I was disappointed that I couldn't find good software and ended up going back (shreeek!) to paper (oh nooo!). Well, now people keep telling me to try OmniFocus and the iPhone App. Hopefully it will be great. Check out wiki.everythingsysadmin.com for other tips.
