In a fit of boredom, I joined OkCupid. It’s funny to see friend’s profiles pop up as matches.

I'm glad I haven't seen any coworkers.

Yet.

Or creepy to see your ex's pop-up....

Heh. I haven't updated my profile in years. It would be very different now, and much less likely for it to show up on a man's screen.

Well be lucky its not an enemy. Though I must admit the hottest sex I ever had was with a person who I considered my nemesis. We were drunk and the next you know? we were doing it. After we fell asleep and then woke up? we agreed we would not speak of it to our friends. But hey I did not hate the person as much as I used to.

There is no one on OkC except:
1) my friends
2) my friends' bitter exes
3) creepy old guys
4) creepy old guys who've previously hit on me via other methods and are delighted to find another venue to either hit on me or remind me that I am too old/ugly/fat to be allowed on the internet.

This bodes not well for the possibility that I might try it. (very remote; still not quite there yet...) I really don't want to be (3).

what's your name on there? (i'm baerana, of course :) )

Trust me, I am perfectly OK with older guys who avoid the creepiness. Usually in the OkC context it has something to do with being a 50ish Burner with messed-up interpersonal skills.

I've actually been encouraging my exes to get on OKC - after I look at the range of respective match and enemy percentages, I'm wishing we'd all been on the site long, long ago...

I've actually had a successful date with the first person EVER I have met from OKC. I joined OKC when it started, deleted, and then rejoined. I suspect we'll probably match high.

What always gets me is I have a few exes on there. (Exes through their choice, not mine.) And I always look at the high percentage match, and just sigh.

Or poly people who I know of, but who live 400+ miles away.

So welcome to OKCupid.. of course it only works well if you answer at least 1000 questions. :)

Also, and here's a hint which might or might not be useful... post a few "journal" entries there. Sometimes people will comment.

One of my life goals is to not become a creepy old guy. :)

It used to be that a lot of people I knew/recognized popped up as matches; either friends or friends of friends or people I recognized from Wicked events or clubs that I would go to.

Then they changed their algorithm and now I get fewer compatible matches. However, sheep that I am, I'm still there.

Gah, I have. And not just my co-workers who are friends, either... Nnggggg.

That is one of my goals as well.

indeed. when I first joined OKcupid, my brother-in-law was the first guy I got matched with. I was amused. Not suprised -- we do get along quite well -- but amused nonetheless.

Well it sure was. No Regrets. But I have regrets about others but thats a whole sordid affair about a girl with the mousy hair.

But I have this socialization problem (see journal for TMI)... people seem to think I'm creepy when I'm just being normal. *sigh*

It totally is. But I think there are some things that probably match most people's subjective definitions of creepy, such as acting as if the girl you've just emailed for the first time is going to move you into her home/give you money/watch your kids/perform whatever sex act it is that your wife won't do.

ETA: forgot "give you drugs" in that list.

This is true. But I try not to have expectations of people. I mean they will end up disappointing you. Which is why I like working with dogs and cats a whole lot better.
