I guess it might be possible to wait until Yahoo! or Microsoft cease to exist, but in the short run it's always possible to claim that Microsoft just hasn't bought Yahoo! yet.
I think your theory that this all represents a conscious effort on the part of the media to bury an obvious story to sell more newspapers or whatever is totally bogus. As the famous physicist said, it's not even wrong.
