My goal for last night was to get a good night sleep at any cost. I hadn't gotten a good night sleep in 4 nights, including the last three nights where I had less than 5 hours sleep and got up around 6-7am to drive somewhere. I can usually fall asleep within minutes of my head hitting the pillow. The problem is that when I have a lot of stress, getting me TO bed is difficult. I watch more TV, do something on my computer, masturbate... you know, all the usual procrastination techniques. I also can't go to sleep too early. I could never sleep during the day, or even at 9pm at night. I need to be well within my usual sleep pattern. To get a really good night's sleep I need someone to physically prevent me from procrastinating, make sure I'm in bed. I had dinner with Yang, Pang, a mutual friend and the baby. The baby was wonderfully well-behaved. After dinner I drove home in my car, then Yang came over in her own car. We watched the new Ellen DeGeneres's new HBO stand-up special together. Afterwords, Yang gave me a massage (she's a LMT) and tucked me in. She let her self out, locking the door behind her. I normally fall asleep in a few minutes, but it took at least 15 (which is a long time for me). I purposefully didn't set my alarm clock, because I was pretty sure I'd wake up in time to get to work without it, and if that happened I knew that I'd at least wake up in time to phone into my 9am conference call. At 3:30am my cell phone rang. It was Saavis, one of the ISPs we use at work, calling to say that our link was down and ask if I needed assistance. I told them that there were storms here and it was likely to be on our end, and that they should check again in a few hours. Luckily I was able to fall back asleep. At 7:20am I woke up. I'm not sure what time I went to sleep, but I'm sure I got at least 9 hours of sleep. The most I've gotten in a while.

Have you noticed that the provider that will -never- call you when you desperately want to hear about an outage will -always- call you when you're getting sleep after an all-nighter, or you're in a different time zone, or otherwise just want the world to go away?

Glad to hear you fell right back asleep though ;> That's a knack I'm still working on.
