Crazy idea of the week

You know that Fred Phelps guy that protests at funerals of anyone that died of AIDS? Well, how about we create an organization which finds parents that have kicked their kids out of the house because they came out, and we do big protests right at their doorstep.
I even have the perfect name for the organization: “Welcome Home”. Just like Phelps, it wouldn’t do anything to help the problem but it would bring attention to the issue.

I'm in. As long as we don't picket the houses of people whose kids have left for some other reason and claim that we are doing it because their kids leaving was ultimately caused by god punishing the world in general because he is angry that some people kick their kids out for being gay.

What if we sent "Way to go!" gift baskets to parents who actually manage to be cool about it when their kids come out to them? Gift certificate for a dinner for two, appropriate books, and info about p-flag...

It's like when I thank my husband just for being a decent person, after talking with friends whose husbands are being assholes.

No. Picketing anyone in their own home is creepy, and I wouldn't stoop to within shouting distance of the tactics of Operation Rescue, much less Phred Phelps.

I think there ought to be a law against picketing people in their homes. Therefore, if we do it to right-wingers, they will make such a law. I'm in.
