Wow, someone anonymously replied, twice, to some of my recent posts. The posts are insulting. Calling me a snake and a liar.
I had 2 initial reactions. First, I thought that they were written by my ex. They just seem to sound like her when she's in her manic state. Childish, repetitive, with pagan symbology. (I'm convinced that she's manic-depressive, which is a shame because years ago when we were together she was being medicated as if she was depressed, which is the dangerously wrong thing to be doing.... but I digress).
My next reaction was to delete them: It's just a mouse-click. But then I decided not to. After getting over the initial shock, I realized that I have no fear of this person. If I fear them, they hold the power. The opposite is how I feel... I'd love to meet them, in public, for a debate.
Then the scientist in me kicked in. Could I find the poster? Both were posted from the same IP address. I checked the registries and found that the IP address they used is registered with Ulster County Community College (SUNY Ulster) in Stone Ridge, New York. Most likely, someone was sitting in their lab and posted it. They were both posted around 4pm on Friday afternoon. A little mischief before the weekend begins. Further investigation found that the school's network has a firewall that prevents me from tracerouting all the back to them, but on the other hand that means it is very unlikely that the poster was just relaying stuff off a system there. The person was actually at the campus.
Oddly, I was driving around there last weekend when I was at Omega Institute. I don't think that anyone out there would connect to me.
Who is it?
It couldn't have been my ex. I don't think she would be up in Ulster. She has relatives in NY state, but waaaaay up (a 6-hour drive) from there. I racked my brain to think of someone... anyone... that lived out there. No dice.
Now I have to decide if I'm going to deny non-members (or non-friends) from posting replies to my posts. Originally I thought that if that happens I could just delete the posts but now it has happened and I'm not deleting the posts. Hrrmmm.
I hope that the person speaks up again. I hope they send me email directly so that I can see who they are. Until then, I can't waste energy being afraid of cowards. That's what this person is.
And therefore I will not restrict posting to my messages. Let's see what happens.

Date: 2002-05-11 09:25 am (UTC)Of course, now you've got ME curious! So I'm gonna go read what they wrote...see how well they know you or what. sounds like from your post that they know you personally, and weren't really replying to what you posted, but just leaving nasty notes in your journal.

Date: 2002-05-11 09:46 am (UTC)Although, you could always contact SUNY and tell them the situation, and try to find the harasser -- most likely someone's using the computer labs, but hey, you could try, if you really cared.
Could it be a friend/lover of your ex that's up there? networks run pretty wide and deep, and all that had to have happened was for your ex to tell "her side" to a few people and they probably all hate you....blah blah blah.
For the record, I can't think of a snake and you without thinking about something fat and long and slithery and.....mmmmmmmmmm. Speaking of which, did I tell you my mother is giving me her car? I forsee being able to visit you more easily in the future. Which means....more (*cough*) taming of your snake. :)
