1. Webcams: Is everyone on the Internet naked?

2. PAM Modue for the UrinalMatic3000 (a good paper, but we don't want to go there)

3. What I learned about my ex-girlfriend from reading her Live Journal.

4. What I learned about my ex-boyfriend by analysing his webproxy logs.

5. A model for determining PC purchasing policy (written by that "Dude, you're gettin' a Dell" guy)

Wow. Are the rejected papers always this lame?

Um, that his taste in porn is worse than I thought it was?

I'm not sure about the readers not getting it...I'm probably one of the ungeekiest people that Tom knows and I knew it was a joke.

(Although I have enough geek influence in my life that maybe it's not so difficult)

Yeah, it'd be much funnier if you made sure people knew it was supposed to be a joke.

By the way, that picture of George W. Bush with the One Ring has been doctored. Just so you know. And the moon really is real; some people know I'm kind of into astronomy, and I wouldn't want them to think that I really knew something they didn't know with that "moon hoax" thing I sent out.

Okay. I'll admit it. I fell for it. Mostly because I thought people would actually submit joke papers, but also because I could see people using some of those as their sub-titles.

For example: "Social engineering through detailed analysis of self-documented activity" -or- what I learned about my girlfriend through her weblog.

I'm pretty sure no one is going to think Tom somehow got unauthorized access to the _real_ PAM auth for urinals paper.

Hey, I voted for #1. I mean, we need more porn at LISA.

No, PAM modules work the other way. This module would be a pee-test that would let you log into a system. If you accidentally log out and are dehydrated you could really be screwed :-)

Not to mention the privacy issues...

Josh, I delete any post that mentions my last name. Please repost.
Thanks,

It's a shame you didn't list the top ten "rejects," since worst-scoring paper #8 was by that Limoncelli bozo, something about sysadminning hacked TiVo systems to be Internet-capable with external RAID-5 disks.

(You know, Tom, next time you post a joke like this you might want to provide some indication that it's a joke. Especially since you're not on the program committee, you didn't read all 90 valid submitted papers, and (unless someone's provided you the unpublished lists of accepted papers) you don't have access to the system to see the accept/reject results. I'm just concerned that some of Your Readers might not figure out you're kidding.

Apparently not everyone recognized it as a joke; see here for an example.

Well, Dan's already given his porn talk at LISA and at ATC. Maybe he should revise it and give it again?

Or you could host a pr0n BOF!
