I have to think that this is all a tempest in a teapot. SBCAT&T wants Google/Ebay/Yahoo/Amazon to pay twice to "access" their customers when both sides are already paying for access and transit? There's a pretty simple solution to that problem: say no.
I'd love to see some stats on SBC's customer retention after they start blocking Google, Ebay and Amazon. I'd also love to short ATT and go long on Comcast and Time Warner at the same time.
Of course, the trick is getting all of the major players to say no, and say it consistently. If they can divide and conquer, we're all fucked.
"On the flip side", consumers are already paying for different rate packages. Want cheap? Get dialup. For a little more, entry speed DSL. Pay a premium and get super fast speeds. I pay $50/month and get 15Mbit/s download speeds via cable. A neighbour pays $30/month and gets 3Mbit/s download speeds via DSL. A friend in NY pays $17/month and gets 640Kbit/s via DSL.
And then she overhypes with a "life or death" situation. Guh.
Yes, Net Neutrality is important, but that rocketboom film... guh.
