It's a good thing from the PR perspective, but the term actually has a negative connotation. Usually Slashdot mentions your web site and suddenly so many people coming to your web site that it gets overloaded. lessor web servers crash. The term "being slashdotted" now means "being overloaded because the media mentioned you and you weren't prepared".
Luckily they didn't mention my web site directly, so only people that take a moment to search for it are hitting my web site.
Though, I'm prepared if it does get overloaded. I have a low-bandwidth homepage that I can switch to very easily.
