You know what amazed me about the /. review? The review was really good, but amazingly, nobody dumped on it, which seems to be a pastime for many on /.. I think that speaks really highly for the book. Oh, and the guy (Saint Aardvark, I think) that said "And hey, he co-wrote The Practice of System and Network Administration, another excellent book. I'll take a look at anything he's got to show."
VERY cool! Ya know, ten minutes ago, if someone asked me if being slashdotted was a good thing or a bad thing, I wouldn't have known. So now I've learned my one thing for today. Can I go to sleep now? ;)
Seriously - very nice...! I have a few sysadmin friends that I'll pass this along to.
It's a good thing from the PR perspective, but the term actually has a negative connotation. Usually Slashdot mentions your web site and suddenly so many people coming to your web site that it gets overloaded. lessor web servers crash. The term "being slashdotted" now means "being overloaded because the media mentioned you and you weren't prepared".
Luckily they didn't mention my web site directly, so only people that take a moment to search for it are hitting my web site.
Though, I'm prepared if it does get overloaded. I have a low-bandwidth homepage that I can switch to very easily.
That Rocks! Oh, and you may want to take a sec to update your bio... When am I going to see you here? I would love to have you over to dinner while you're in the area!
neet. it was bound to happen, but i'm very glad for you that it's a positive review! <comment mode="starfucker" > yay, yay, yay. make lots of money! fuck tons of cute boys and girls on the book tour! when is it coming to seattle? ;) </>
