You should have seen the confusion around my office when my boss abbreviated our Framingham, MA office as f8m in an e-mail.

I think it'd be kinda r8s, but you could.

Would that make your first book The P6e of S4m and N5k A12n?

My resident programmer couldn't translate this humor for me. :(

Committees that focus on "Internationalization" of software (i.e. non-European alphabets) abbreviate the word to I18n. That is, "I", followed by 18 letters, then the letter "n". People that work on "localization" (the ability for a software package to have a "select what language you'd like to see the menus/prompts/etc in" have started abbreviating their work to be L10n.

Thus, my last name should be L8i.

Thanks! My home programmer sez he really, really, really knows all programmers should deal with internationalization/localization, but he doesn't - thus the lack of immediate recognition.
- M5a?
