During the dot.com boom, I got 1-2 phone calls from recruiters every day.

That stopped for a while.

Suddenly I'm getting calls again. My guess is that recruiters are about 6 months ahead of the economy curve when things are getting better.

I've been getting calls again too, although not daily.

If I were getting calls, I might expire of joy. I'd take that risk, though.

I don't think California is on the upswing.

Boston doesn't seem to be picking up either.

I'm torn about the economy getting better. On the one hand, I want all my unemployed and underemployed friends to find jobs and be happy again. On the other hand, if the economy gets better by 2004, we get four more years of Shrub, since the best hope for voting him out would have been a repeat of 1992 "It's the economy, stupid!"

Maybe.

It may be that people aren't happy, and that it's taken too long for things to get going again, that we can get rid of him in the next election.

It may be that enough people are unthrilled with the Iraq situation that we can dump him.

I hope.

I think getting rid of the Shrub in the next election depends highly upon finding a Democratic candidate who can inspire people and propose a sane courses of action. IMHO, this person is not Dick Gephardt. However, I don't yet know who in the Democratic camp can come even close to the kind of charisma, fundraising power, and guts to win the race. *sigh*

And not in field of as many candidates as the current democratic field. No one will be able to know any one candidate well enough to choose wisely.

I'd love to have a candidate to whom the phrase "I may not agree with them, but I can certainly admire them" could be applied. Unfortunately I can't think of a living politician to whom I'd apply it.

What about John Edwards from NC? An unfortunate name (same as the psychic guy on SciFi) but he's young, good looking, and mm... what's that other thing... oh yeah, he's got a lot of good liberal ideas.

2 words for you.

Bill. Bradley.

C'mon, we've had an actor. Before we skip to professional wrestler, we should at least have the professional-basketball-player-as-president. . .

Strike 1: His wife is an immigrant (naturalized).

Strike 2: His wife's parents were members of the nazi party.

While she is a true liberal and anti-racist, the media would have a blow-up about this. The last time he started to run, they (the campaign) did a LOT of "pre-positioning" on the subject just in case.

Hmmm. I'm not sure - people's malaise and frustration seems to be delayed somewhat from what's actually happening. If things start looking better even before the election I still wouldn't be surprised if the electorate still has a bit of a bad feeling about Il Duce. Actually, if people start feeling safer (unlikely), it might work against him, because people will stop thinking with their hindbrains and start thinking more calmly about their futures and their children's futures. Not that this is necessarily rational, but I don't think a slight easing of the recession is necessarily going to translate directly into political capital for our duly appointed leader. (A really substantial recovery would, but I don't think that's going to happen in the timeframe Little Brother wants it to.)

[livejournal.com profile] emmett_the_sane has been getting nibbles lately as well - not full time stuff, but freelance contracts and temp stints here and there.

D'ya think The Book has anything to do with things?

I haven't heard from a recruiter in ages. Well, that's not true, I got email from one a couple months ago looking for a Windoze AFS programmer, but she spammed every name related to AFS she could find.

I never got calls from recruiters before and I still don't get them...guess I'm just not that appealing. :P My coworker who does get recruiter calls, though, has fielded several lately.
