On Memorial Day, I’d like to thank everyone that has died in service to this county. Especially my uncle that died in WW2. Especially the 1,831 Coalition soldiers, Marines, airmen, sailors and Coast Guardsmen who lost their lives in Iraq. At least 12,631 US troops have also been wounded in action.

I’d also like to remind everyone that wounded means amputee or severely disabled. When you hear “so-and-so many died and blah-blah wounded” everyone ignores the “wounded” statistic because it sounds like someone skinned their knee. No, when you are in Iraq you get cuts and bruises every damn day You aren’t counted as “wounded” until you lose a limb or are severely disabled and are sent home.

Don’t ignore the number of wounded. These are the fathers, sons, mothers and daughters that are returning to the states to live the rest of their lives in wheelchairs and crutches.
