Ok, that’d not really what the article is about, but today’s NYT has very long piece about Bush, well, you be the judge. Get a cup of coffee and block out a bit of time. This is a multipage, in-depth, piece.

’’I don’t know why you’re talking about Sweden,’’ Bush said. ‘’They’re the neutral one. They don’t have an army.’’

Lantos paused, a little shocked, and offered a gentlemanly reply: ‘’Mr. President, you may have thought that I said Switzerland. They’re the ones that are historically neutral, without an army.’’ Then Lantos mentioned, in a gracious aside, that the Swiss do have a tough national guard to protect the country in the event of invasion.

Bush held to his view. ‘’No, no, it’s Sweden that has no army.’’

The room went silent, until someone changed the subject.

or this one
In the summer of 2002, after I had written an article in Esquire that the White House didn’t like about Bush’s former communications director, Karen Hughes, I had a meeting with a senior adviser to Bush. He expressed the White House’s displeasure, and then he told me something that at the time I didn’t fully comprehend -- but which I now believe gets to the very heart of the Bush presidency.

The aide said that guys like me were ‘’in what we call the reality-based community,’’ which he defined as people who ‘’believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality.’’ I nodded and murmured something about enlightenment principles and empiricism. He cut me off. ‘’That’s not the way the world really works anymore,’’ he continued. ‘’We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality -- judiciously, as you will -- we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.’’

This will come as quite a surprise to my acquaintance who served in Sweden's army...

It's amazing the stuff you'll hear out of the oval office, I have a lot of extremely religious friends who are voting for bush out of right simply because he "answers to a higher power." as I recall in this day and age thats a bad thing...
