How geeks translate timezones

On this trip there were times when I was so tired I needed to verify that my timezone calculations were right, so I would log into a Unix machine in that timezone and ask it what time it was there.

my phone (kyocera 7135 palmphone) automatically changes timezones as I travel. Convenient for the most part, except when I'm charging across the Dallas airport to because I think I'm almost late for my flight, and arriving to an AA representative saying "That flight dosn't leave for an hour, sir."
