So I bought a 50-pack of DVD+R’s because I have a bunch ‘o burnin’ to do and the first 3 work great... then my Mac PowerBook 15” starts rejecting the disks saying that they are CD’s, not DVDs.

So I put them in my old-style Mac PB 15” and it rejects them for the same reason.

Oh shit, does the Mac only support -R, not +R? And if so, why did the first 3 burn so well?

So I guess I’m stuck with $50 of DVD blanks that I can’t use (anyone want to buy them from me?) unless I can find a way to get my Mac to burn on them.

Can anyone explain what’s going on? I admit total ignorance to the who +R/-R thing.

Yep, they're different standards

Just different standards adopted by different manufacturers. Sort of a VHS/Beta thing. See: http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#4.3. I owned burning in my area of the world at MS.

Yep

Fortunately, most new DVD writers cope with -R, -RW, +R and +RW.

The difference btw DVD+R and DVD-R is:

(DVD+R)-(DVD-R) = 2R

DVD-R is Sony, IIRC, and DVD+R is Phillips... +R allows for packet-writing, -R does not.

It is weird, however, that the first three would be fine--could it just be bad media?
