A fun weekend
Apr. 24th, 2007 08:01 amFriday was the 5th anniversary of
quietchris and my first date. (Well, not counting the dates we had nearly 20 years ago.) I telecommuted so that I could be home when she did. We went out for a nice meal and went to sleep relatively early.
Saturday morning we woke up and drive to Washington D.C. First stop was The International Spy Museum. It was... well... very interesting but very commercial. I forgot what a for-profit museum looks like. I learned a lot and we both had fun.
Then we hopped in the car and thanks to Google Maps on the Palm Treo we found our way to the home of some friends of ours M and D. D went to collect with
quietchris and I. I knew M from post-college stuff. I was there when they met. (Oh, and if this isn’t a “small world” situation... M went to highschool with someone we went to college with.) There are many times when I’m surprised to learn that someone knows them already due to FOAF connections. We had burgers and stuff on a BBQ and talked late into the night. It was fantastic to catch up with them. (
stitchinthyme and
origamislayer were going to meet us there, but stich was feeling ill. Oh well.)
Sunday morning we went out for breakfast and got back late (dare I point out that at a table near us was someone that looked exactly like
inflectionpoint 10 years ago?). But soon we said our goodbyes and got on the road to visit
aquariumgirl and J and their 2 kids. Wow! I can’t believe I haven’t seen them in since either of their kids were born. It was good to meet them. We spent two hours there, chatting, playing a board game called TransAmerica.
quietchris and I aren’t gamers but we really enjoyed this. It was simple enough that we were able to understand it and get good at it quickly. Plus a complete game only took 20-30 minutes which meant we could play it a couple times. Again we said our goodbyes and got on the road.
Driving back to NJ we stopped at a rest stop for dinner (Roy’s) and we were almost home when we hit horrid traffic. Ugh.
We got home around 8:30pm, watch last week’s Soprano’s on Tivo, and went to sleep.
