Writing my own journal is time enough. I don't want to actually have to READ it too...that's someone else's job.

Yup, I do that too, for that reason as well as to give me one-stop reading... that way I get to see if anyone's responded to my thread alongside reading my friends' own posts.

I've "been my own friend" for quite a while. Both for the reason you state, and for another reason. I've been bugged that my own little userpic choices don't show up on my own page of posts, and I tried hard to find a way for it to work. Lotsa painful mucking with style pages, no success. Finally, my best method was to define a "friends group" called "JustMe" where I now see exactly what I was looking for. Works great.
