I was talking about this with a republican coworker the other day, not specifically republican voters going libertarian, but just a 3rd party candidate taking republican votes because the current administration so doesn't represent the values of fiscal conservative/small government republicans and in fact seems to be drumming them out of congress. His response was "no way, you _have_ to vote the party line. That's the only option." I sort of wonder how much "whipping" there will be in this vein aimed at the republican voter in the coming months.
But aside from that, libertarians have just been disorganized low-budget crazies with a main plank of legalizing pot for too long. Ordinary mainstream fiscal conservative/small government republicans are simply not going to see that as an option without some sort of psychoactive medication. So I predict more traditional republican voters simply staying home this year.
