Major CEOs in America have taken the time to encourage everyone to take an hour off from work to vote next week. (I like the use of peer-pressure... now any CEO that doesn't give people time off is defying the CEO of Cisco, eBay, Google, etc. etc. and MR. TRUMP!).

I find the idea that one will be able to accomplish voting in just an hour incredibly optimistic. I'm expecting to end up in a long line.

I agree. If these bigwigs had any cojones and were seriously committed to the cause, they would encourage their employees to take as much time as necessary to vote.

In most states a 'reasonable amount of time' is required by employers.

... but only if your work schedule pretty much completely overlaps polling hours. If the polls are open from 6AM - 9PM and your work shift is 9-5, the overwhelming majority of states will say that you are not harmed by voting outside work hours.

In my experience (Western NY), an hour isn't a safe estimate if you show up before work or after dinner, but if you came in during the early afternoon you'd be more likely than not to find no line at all. Companies that do give you an hour in the middle of the day are certainly aiding the smooth processing of democracy, so all of these folks deserve credit (except Trump, naturally).

Um, duh. They're bigwigs. They are much more concerned with "looking good" than any of what you said.

I think Trump makes it sound like his people will get *exactly* 1 hour and no more...not helpful.

With so much early and absentee voting this year, I wonder if people are getting some pressure in the workplace to get it done ahead of time on your own time.

the reason michigan goes democrat even though it's a mostly republican state is the uaw gets pretty much anyone who even thought of working in the auto industry the entire day off to go vote. but i already voted absentee anyway.
