yesthattomRepublicans treat 9/11 as something to celebrate. They wave red, white and blue flags. They cheer. They showed a video about 9/11 at the RNC which tried to use the victims of 9/11 for political gain. It’s a holiday. The days that immediately followed 9/11 were spent passing anti-environmental bills in Washington D.C. since “nobody would notice” and later, 9/11 was used to justify the mis-named “Patriot Act”, which robs of us basic liberties and freedoms. When Republicans travel to NYC they get excited about seeing Ground Zero like they want to see any other tourist attraction. They discuss how proud they are the Bush handled the aftermath so well.
Democrats treat 9/11 as a funeral. Thousands died. We wear black. We mourn. At the convention it was discussed with reverence and seriousness. The days immediately following 9/11 Democratic activists went home and spent time with their families. When Democrats travel to NYC they visit Ground Zero and pray for the dead, and reaffirm their commitment to fight like hell for the living. We discuss how Bush ignored Clinton’s warning during the transition, and Clarke’s protestations the months prior.
To everyone that lost loved-ones on September 11, 2001, my heart goes out to you.
