McCain plans "exciting" tv advert tonight

Everyone is abuzz about McCain claiming to have an exciting TV advert planned for tonight.

Imagine if on the day that MLK, Jr. made his famous “I have a dream!” speech, a group that opposed the Civil Rights Act took out TV advertisements to distract everyone away from MLK, Jr? Ok, I know that’s an exaggeration, but it feels so dirty.

My prediction? He’ll use a TV advert to announce his running mate. (Not really... I’m just saying that so that if it is that crazy, I can say I predicted it.)

He's going to "leak" his VP announcement tonight, moments before Obama starts speaking. It's weird to see the McCain campaign suddenly doing politically savvy things.

My prediction of record: Romney. Furthermore, the McCain-Romney ticket will be riven with internecine strife, and the straight talk express will jump the rails and careen into the valley below. Or, at least, they'll go back to their usual un-coordinated campaign strategies.

How many times did Bush do that when the Democrats — or anyone else he disapproved of — scheduled a news conference? It's entrenched Republican behavior these days. :(

That video included every racist "code word" and right-wing propaganda technique wrapped into a 2.5 minute video. History books should study it in their chapter on how the radical right figured out how to sell hate with a pretty bow on it.

Purpose of ad: We do standard social niceties when appropriate, whether the people are Black or White. So if you were thinking of voting against him and you're uneasy because you think that might be too much because he's Black, don't worry. I'm not racist and you're not either, so now you can do what your gut is telling you.
