Did I mention that I'm going to Australia? Did I mention that I applied for my passport?

I got the passport in the mail yesterday. I'm psyched! I've never had one before.

So, anyone have advice for a bi poly nerd spending a week in Melbourne and then a week in Sydney?

Sydney suggestions

I can tell you about stuff to do in Sydney. What would be your focus for activities, i.e., do you want to see the outdoors, do cultural stuff, both?

I can tell you where to find both the male and female hookers. :-) (William St. and Darlinghurst St. in Kings Cross for female, and Oxford St. in Taylor Square for men.) *giggle* Actually, besides being places where you can pick up a trick, Kings X and Taylor Sq. are both pretty hopping areas. I'd recommend visiting them.

You might want to visit Bondi Beach once. If you like a nice walk, there's the Bondi-to-Coogee cliff walk (about 6 km) which takes you south along the shore. You can get a bus back to the city from Coogee, or at least a bus back to Bondi Junction, where you can catch the City Rail into Sydney proper. Another spiffy walk is going from the Opera House to Macquarie Point. If you stand there and look west, you get a spectacular view of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge and the city...fantastic for sunset photo ops. You might run into a few wedding parties taking photos. :)

Have dinner at Cicada, a wonderful restaurant on Challis St. in Potts Point (within walking distance of Kings X). It was our favorite fancy restaurant in town. They have an excellent wine list, beautiful food, and really amazing desserts (the passionfruit souffle is to die for).

There's the Taronga Zoo across the bay. On the weekends you can visit the markets in The Rocks (an arty neighborhood just west of Circular Quay). There are plenty of museums in the city and there's several metric tons of shopping. If you have a free day, take a day trip out to the Blue Mountains or the Jenolan Caves.

Trust me, you'll wish you had more than a week to spend in Sydney. :)
