Of course, I wasn’t sure if I wanted people to be honest or take my side. I think people were mostly taking my side, which is what I needed at first. However, there were certainly times where honesty would have been better.

I never want people to take sides. Not my side, not an opposing side. I want people to have better vision.

Well, I didn't know it was coming. I saw signs, but I assumed there were more contrary signs than there turned out to be.

I wanted honesty. It would have helped a lot... especially when one's partner is a) not in touch with reality and b) quite convincing.

I didn't see it coming. But when it happened, I realised that I had been complacent, thinking that the status quo was workable and would continue and "it'd work out". Because I thought things were no worse than before and I had good intentions, I assumed things would be fixable. They were not.

Once I stopped trying to fix things, I realised 'things' had been broken for a long time. For a long time I just felt that I'd wasted all those years. I'm glad though to be in the place where I am now, and if things had been different then, well, they might be different now too. And I like the way they are now.

I totally feel ya.....

Remember this? http://awfief.livejournal.com/272984.html

Also, I think "we knew it was happening" is technically being honest, but also not being helpful...and not really taking a side at all. "you were wrong but [partner] was still a jerk about it, but you caused the fault to begin with" is honest, not taking your side, but helpful.

Although maybe it's more of an "I told you so", and really "take my side" is more of a "please validate me" as opposed to "please agree with me." *shrug*

most folks who posted "I'd rather have honesty" probably aren't posting in the middle of the pain. Hell, [livejournal.com profile] srakkt has since apologized to me and we're friends, but I can still understand where I was coming from and totally validate my need to have sympathy in the form of "taking my side."
