I believe this reflects in the under-reported increase in minority youth voters, mostly coming from the hip-hop movement. Hip-hop moguls have increasingly participated in voter registration drives.
Speaking of hip-hop... I got to see a lecture by Jeff Chang on the pre-history of hip-hop today. It’s part of his book promotion tour for “Can’t Stop Won’t Stop” which is shipping now.
