DMV outsource silliness
Jul. 24th, 2003 12:38 pmI got a note in the mail saying I needed to renew my auto registration.
NJ has a really good process (finally!). They send you the actual form, with most of the fields filled out. You can mail it in with a check, or bring it to the DMV. It also has a PIN on the bottom. If you call their toll-free number or go to www.accessdmv.com and enter the PIN, it essentially asks you to verify that the info on the form is correct, accepts your credit card number, and you are done. (You get the new registration stuff by mail in a week).
Being the geek that I am, I saw the "RENEW ONLINE! WWW.ACCESSDMV.COM" on the bottom of the form and plugged it into my web browser. It all worked fine, and I agreed to take their mini-survey at the end. Question #1 is:
How did you find out about AccessDMV?
o Radio
o Television
o Newspaper/Print Media
o Mail
o Internet
o Other
What's wrong with this question? That's right, none of the options are, "On the form that was mailed to me". I really wonder if they are taking our adverts on the radio, TV, in print, or on the internet. Yes, they included "Mail", but I'm a nitpicker :-)
My theory is that part of the contract with IBM (yes, it's an IBM sub-contract to the state of NJ) included that they had to have some kind of feedback form, so they threw this on as an after-thought.

Technically,

Date: 2003-07-24 01:48 pm (UTC)Up until the point I noted that there would be a $4.00 "convenience fee."
"Fuck you!" Cry I. And mail it in I did.
