I am making the cover of a book that I’m going to self-publish (I’m going to put all the April Fools RFCs in one place). I need a picture for the cover, and I was thinking that a simple picture of a pigeon would be cool, but I need one that is royalty free (or if you own the picture, I will send you a copy of the book for free). I don’t expect the book to make any money, it’s just something I’m doing so that I will have a copy of the book :-)

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dannyman/74895579/ comes to mind.

My Flickr stream is CC licensed, and I'll grant ya permission, if any of my birdies strike your fancy:

Do you have a super-duper high-resolution version of this bird?

1600x1200 is the best I got . . . . . . . .

http://www.sxc.hu/ is a great place for royalty-free images.

I'm going to chalk this up to a cold-induced brain fog, but for a full five seconds or so, I was trying to figure out why all the pigeon pictures you could find included the Queen of England, or some such person...

You can do a keyword search on Flickr and search by the flavor of CC license that best suits your needs.

You might also be able to get one dirt cheap from iStockPhoto.

I'm going to go: Me Too :-) It'd be fun to hand to some of my not-quite-as-geeky-friends,yet-still-geeky-enough for fun... or just to keep on my desk.

I can't wait to see this! I hope it's official-looking--I want to be able to pull a big, geeky-looking book off my desk and point at RFC 2321 to show that indeed, I do in fact need to purchase a rubber chicken for the network closet.

Does it need to be a pigeon? Or would a photograph of a marshmallow peep do?

I think the postscript version of 2321 never made it into the archive for some reason. It has a photo (vs. ascii art). You want a copy (assuming I can dig one out...)?

It didn't arrive. Maybe a spam filter caught it?

Send it to yesthattom@livejournal.com and see if that goes through.
