My new blog-post on my time management blog is useful for non-system administrators so I thought I’d link to it here.

Great tips. I'll have to point out the one about meetings to people at work.

I'm curious about the mailing list diet tip: how many mailing lists are you on that require you to go in and prune out old ones?

Cook At Home

Cook at Home: There's tremendous pleasure, and savings of both time and money, to be found in cooking at home. Invite friends over for potluck suppers, or put together meals for each other. The time is richer and more full of experience than going out to eat, and you don't waste the time sitting around in a restaurant waiting for food to be brought to you. Also, you build your own knowledge and experience -- as a cook, a party planner, a host of social gatherings, and a friend. It's a massive improvement on time all around.

Putting together a dinner is also a bit of systems administration... how long does everything have to cook in order for it all to be on the table at approximately the same time? Not easy, but again, rewarding to practice.

I was going to put this comment on your other website... but I'd have to register, and I'm not prepared to give a mailing list yet to read your column. :-)

Now, if you offered recipes....

Ten zillion. Well, it feels like that. It's more like 20, plus about 100 Yahoo groups that (a) go to a different account, (b) are mostly set to "nomail".

That's a great point! Food tastes better when you add the feeling of accomplishment from making it. Plus, cooking a meal for friends is a lot better social activity that seeing a movie.

As far as the registration on www.everythingsysadmin.com, it's just to block spammers. It isn't tied to me, actually. It's a typepad account. (I do have a mailing list but you have to join separately... and I think it has had 2 posts all year, so it isn't what I'd call "spammy")
