Source Code
Jun. 14th, 2006 10:15 amHow much would you pay to have Kirk McKusick read the source-code to the FreeBSD operating system, line by line, and explain what it is and how it works.
While I was in California, I attended his weekly class until I had to return home. (he let me pay half price since I was only at the first half of the series).
Would you pay... $1,000?
These people did: Class pictures
I wasn’t there that day. Dang!
Update: Clarification: The class was 1 night per week for 15 weeks. 15 FREAKIN' WEEKS! Here is the description. You can buy the DVD set. I highly recommend it.

Date: 2006-06-14 11:12 am (UTC)I tend to glaze over when trying to understand more than a dozen or so complex structs at one time.
But I could totally see how someone with a need (or passion) to comprehend the guts of an OS of interest might be quite interested and retained by such a presentation.
I, personally, couldn't justify the cost, but that's just me.

Date: 2006-06-14 01:02 pm (UTC)I took the UNIX Kernel Internals class a while back and it remains one of the best and most memorable classes I've taken. I'd love to do it again.
