How much you wanna bet he doesn't talk about immigration but instead uses it as an opportunity to make the case for war in Iran, declare the war in Iraq "over", or something else unrelated to immigration.

My guess is sorta the different. In order to divert our attention away from his disasters in the Middle East, he's going to declare war on immigrants and call out the National Guard to fight that war. Hating immigrants has always been a way to boost support among the Republican faithful, so that's their big issue for November.

According to what I just read on truthout (http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/051306W.shtml), our President is going to have a lot more to worry about than the Iraq War, or immigration. Check it out.

Damn! I can't wait. I really, really hope this is true, and not just because I'll look like a dick if it's not.

To address your wider point, though:

  1. you can hardly talk about immigration in this country without talking about 9/11 even tangentially, given the stupendous failures of all the agencies charged with keeping bad people out of the country.
  2. President Bush can't open his mouth without saying *something* about Iraq. Nor should he be able to. Every time he says something which is falsifiable, it's invariably shown to be false. This matters, and he should not be able to dodge his duty to speak frankly about the war.
  3. if you listen or read carefully, Bush can be pretty good at staying on-message. He wanders among his core themes, but usually says something, and the news reports of what's going to be announced sure sound like "something" rather than nothing. I don't expect that he intends to waste this address, though if Rove is to be indicted, it'll sure cast some sort of a pall over things.

I just re-read what I've written. Wow, talk about having it both ways. Sorry.

He's going to call out Congress for not passing the stupid tax rebates.
