My first check arrived (2005Q4). Since the book was only on sale for about 35 days in 2005Q4, this is more like "first month sales report".

2412 copies sold in the US.
 201 copies sold foreign
---------------
2613 copies in the first month!

Wow!

Obviously that's a lot of pent-up demand from all the pre-release PR that I did. However, the next quarter should include the day that Slashdot mentioned the book. I can't wait!

congrats :)

I'm not at all surprised, though, it's a fantastic book. You already know how much I loved it. I'm currently making 2 of my boyfriends read it, and I plan to buy copies for all my employees and make it required reading.

anyway, WTG!

HOORAY!!!!!! I haven't bought it, but since it has ablsolutely no relevance on my career or my hobbies, it would be silly for me to buy :)

Neat, I've always been interested in how that all works. Do they print n copies up front and distribute them as necessary to meet demand? Or do they print them as needed. I don't know anything about modern printing. You always hear about "first prints" but are they all done at the same time?

Also, what is n? Or, how does n get determined, whatever it might represent. And, what's "normal" for a tech book? I guess it could depend on how popular the subject is. I'm guessing that some sort of flavor of the month HTML bullshit book will have a lot of sales compared to something useful like GSM antenna design or something.

I get paid based on shipments to dealers, and get $ deducted if there were any returns.

I don't know how big the first printing was or what is normal.

I actually don't remember the numbers for the first book. However, I think it is either about the same or better. Q1 of my last book started with 9/11 and people weren't buying a lot of books.

So... That would be the day that the book became suddenly unavailable for a spell?
