Slang Terms I learned today
Mar. 9th, 2006 10:52 amHyphy -- A style of music and dance associated with San Francisco Bay Area hip-hop culture and created by Oakland rapper Keak Da Sneak. The term is a combination of the words “hyper” and “fly”. It is distinguished by gritty, pounding rhythms, and in this sense can be associated with the bay as crunk music is to the south. An individual is said to “get hyphy” when they dance in an overstated and ridiculous manner, or if they get overly loud with other people. Most in the Bay Area would consider this style as acting “Retarded”, “Riding The Yellow Bus”, or “Stupid Doo-Doo Dumb”.
“Ghostride the whip” means to be dancing next to or on top of the hood of your car while it is still in motion with no one in the driver’s seat, hence the ‘ghost’ in ghostride.
thizz -- E
And according to the radio station I listened to on the way into the office, it is annoying when white people pretend to know what ghostriding means when they don’t. So I looked it up when I got to the office.
I’M SO LAME.
