When Margaret freaked out on Trading Spouses everyone says that she was off her meds.

I disagree. I think this is what the Christian Coalition and AFA and other groups have created. start the video

She was just a drama queen from the very beginning. The cameras just made her into a monster. "Oh, I can show the ENTIRE WORLD what a martyr I am for my family and cause? *splurge*"

I am so glad I don't watch that sort of television. Seeing a woman do that to her children makes me sick. Did you see the little one just cringing in fear? Ugh.

I can't stand reality TV either, but this clip is one of this things that gets passed around on blog sites and such. I ran into it on Fark, for example. It's horrible and sickening, but it's Fox, and that's their M.O. at this point.

That was awful for her kids, whether she planned it with help or not.

Mind you, there's not much more that she could do to ensure that some of her kids seek religions that seem saner than that version of Christianity.

... I hate to say this. that doesn't "seem" crazy to me. I mean it is crazy. But. That is very similar to what you hear in some "Christian" churches. Especially in the South. I don't know anything about Margaret..or this show really. "Trading Spouses" .. I'd almost imagine that a lot of people might view that as an opportunity to get their religious beliefs out there on air. So it probably was scripted by her church leader, and the mom from the beginning .. or she felt extreme guilt for having accepted money to do this.

This is the kind of thing that scares me about religion. The brainwashed attitudes, and the hate that people gorge on all in the name of their religion.

"Christian Warrior" sounds a lot like "Freedom Fighter" .. People laugh this kind of woman off.. not realizing how many people actually are nodding their head along. I'm betting that there are a number of congregations saying "Look at the courageousness of this woman".."she threw away the evil money", "took a stand on public tv"..

*shivers*

I think the text at the end is the best part.

Especially the last line.

I've got to admit, now I'm curious to see the whole episode to know what this "dark-sided" house full of "buddha flags" was really like. It was very clever of the producers to show this woman's rant, I think.

I don't know if I can blame AFA and co. for this sort of thing. There's a strong thread of age-old scared ignorant monkey in this woman's freak out.

Fox used selected clips as the "teaser" in commercials for some time leading up to the episodes (each Trading Spouses edition is split into two 1-hour episodes). As you've guessed (since you have watched TV before ever), her rant came at the end of the second episode.

Seeing this rant did get me to find and download and watch both entire episodes. I wanted to see just what went on to cause such upset. Given the amount of editing that must necessarily go into such a production, finding out the truth is beyond hope, but I figured more information was better than less. It was interesting; the "dark-sided" house was replete with new-age imagery, but nothing that came close to offending my (recovering-)Catholic sensibilities. The only oddity that really popped out at me was the children in that house seemed to be... shy, I guess, but abnormally so, or something. The sheer lack of eye contact they made when they were speaking to Marguerite was something I noticed.

All told, though, the marketing technique of that 6-minute clip sure worked on me: the show is now one of my Season Passes, but low priority to be sure. ;-)

Re the shy kids: maybe they've been brought up to believe that they're elite, aloof indigoes. ;)

Wow. You can see her family members truly realizing what a crazy freakazoid she really is. What do you want to bet those girls grow up and renounce all contact with their mother?

I think this is what the Christian Coalition and AFA and other groups have created.

The Christian Coalition and the AFA don't usually let these folks get in front of a camera. It scares non-believers off. But this is the 'other face', if you will, of Evangelical Christianity.

Frightening? How about the knowledge that the ministers who lead these people are the ones who have the Republican party by the balls? that congresscritters and our President listen to these nutjobs and they are running our country?

And yet I have LJ-friends that are poly and bi that voted Republican because they want lower taxes. (and one of them works for an industry that wouldn't exist if it weren't for Government largesse)

if by other groups you mean the reality television industry which rewards such infantile behaviour with attention, then sure, i'll buy that.

To be honest guys, My wife and I JUST finished watching this episode. I have to amit. It's not that crazy to me.... like the guy said before, I've this thing before... Hell, I grew up with me. My mother knew nothing of AD&D, but what she was told. And she was 100% locked from learning anything from it save what her friends tell her. But this women was a.... who hell, my spelling is so bad.... Hip-O-Critt. She said how the money was "tainted", She lied to the other spouse. But she later accepted the money. But seriously, ALL her kids we're in tears. Yet I met DYFS won't be knocking HER door down after putting her kids through that. But They'll go and threating you if your kids trips on the sidewalk. This women should not have her kids.
