Houston Chronicle points out that
Back in 1999 when the U.S. Senate tried and ultimately acquitted President Bill Clinton after he was impeached by the House, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas had no doubt about the seriousness of the alleged crime. Clinton stood accused of lying under oath and obstructing the investigation of his relationship with intern Monica Lewinsky.
but now that it’s Bush doing the lying, Kay’s pretty cool with it.

This won’t be the first such article as the Republicans start to purger themselves to make Bush look good.

And if it's not under oath it's not perjury. "Whitewash" is probably closer to what you mean.

It's pretty clear from today's revelations that Libby perjured himself in front of the grand jury.

I'm not sure what "today's revelation" is, but whether or not Libby perjured himself it doesn't bear on Hutchison's attempt to whitewash her record.

True, I was not referring to Hutchinson's article, which is hypocrisy, pure and simple. I was referencing the as the Republicans start to purger[sic] themselves phrase.

It was revealed today that, although "Scooter" Libby testified that he heard Valerie Plame was a CIA agent from a journalist, his own notes show that he, in fact, learned that from Dick Cheney.

Not all crimes are equivalent - all you have to do is look at the differing penalties under law for each specific crime to see what is considered a "serious" crime. Even the gross categories (infraction, misdemeanor, felony) give you a guide.

Of course, an upright moralist would point out that all crime is Sin.

It would still be fun to see Karl Rove fry (metaphorically, of course) for an act that the Republicans made a crime in the first place (Reagan administration made disclosure of a CIA agent's cover a crime).

Probably so, but I rather go with the devil I know then the devil I hate more. Dont tell me about Democrats and Liberals. Sometimes liberals piss me off so much I rather be a conservative, but I do not hate myself that much.

Perjure. I think purgering themselves would have something to do with enemas, which is kinkier than they're willing to admit to in public. Not a bad idea, though.

best,

Joel

I heard someone (probably her- I was running around) on "Meet the Press" Sunday talking about how if there were indictments that it better be for something real and not for a trumped up charge like perjusry. Chris Matthews basically said that perjury was against the law for a reason.
