”When I see a person I don’t recognize in the office, I always smile, stop, introduce myself, and ask for the person’s name. I then ask to read it off his ID badge “to help me remember it. I’m a visual learner.” New people think I’m being friendly. I’m really checking for trespassers.”

There's another way of doing it.

"Hi! I'm Glenn, the system admin! You're new? Welcome aboard! Who're you working for? Excellent! Hey? Has anyone given you the Grand Tour? Come on, I'll show you where everything is!" ... walk to boss' office with newbie.. "Hey, (InserT Boss Name Here) I just wanted to let you know that I'm taking (Insert New Employee Name Here) to show them where the coffee machine and such are!"
