After my next trip I will have about 88,000 frequent flyer miles on United Airlines.

Here's how I can use them:

Round-Trip tickets:
25,000 or 40,000 miles -- flight anywhere in the 48 contig states (unrestricted dates/restricted)
35,000 or 60,000 miles -- to hawaii, Puerto Rico
50,000 or 80,000 miles -- Europe

Upgrades:
5,000 or 10,000 miles -- upgrade one class
10,000 or 20,000 miles -- upgrade one class on flights to Europe

I don't have a lot of vacation time. But these points don't expire.

What should I do?

Send me on vacation!

I have vacation time but I'm a poor social worker...

Send me to Crete! I'd be *ever* so grateful...*bats eyelashes*

Seriously. Do a grand tour to everywhere you know there are people who want to sleep with you. That should use 'em all up. ;)

A.
wholly impartial, of course.

He'd need lots more miles to fly to *everyplace* where there were people who wanted to sleep with him, Ny...

*wink*

And all you have to do to get 88,000 frequent-flier miles is write a book and several papers, fly across the pond to Europe and Australia a couple of times to talk about same! No effort at all, really.

Hm. I should look at my mileage statements one of these years. I think I've got enough for a couple of free flights, so maybe I can get to the Ides party in Madison after all. Hm.

Blowing FF miles on Europe in the off-season is pretty silly, especially 'cos fares are so damn low out of JFK/EWR.
OTOH, burning 50k miles for Europe in peak season wouldn't suck, and then you'd have enough left over for a domestic trip.

You could

buy multiple tickets and take multiple people with you somewhere, no? You'd be looking at Continental US then, so go to Seattle or Portland, OR and get the most for your miles.

Personally, I'd take the Europe trip...

Go to Europe, and take a friend with a camera, so that he can take pictures of you _in_ Europe.

88000 FFMiles on the wall ...

Mentally mark 25000-40000 to be saved for when a friend needs to get some place in a hurry -- a family illness, etc.

Then think about how you tend to travel, and what'll make your life more pleasant -- I probably used up 200 K in frequent flyer miles upgrading trips to Europe, and it definitely helped when I was doing those flights on a regular basis. If you're going to continue to travel fairly frequently, think about whether you see value in upgrading to business or first (length of flight, type of plane, etc. are both prominent factors I consider), or whether you'd rather take yourself or somebody else on a vacation trip you mightn't otherwise do.

Save them - I don't know about United but I'm in Sydney and on to New Zealand in Business class using 105,000 FF miles. It's worth it for flights that long. Then figure out a time you can take a few weeks - even if you take a week unpaid - and go to the furthest place you're interested in going.

Not to be the lone voice of reason here, but aren't Hawaii and Puerto Rico warm this time of year? San Juan isn't that long of a flight away, so you're not spending valuable vacation time on travel.
