One of our readers called our attention to National Cable & Telecommunications Association’s content blocking policy. What this basically says is that the cable company MUST PROVIDE blocking services for ANY channel upon request. Since most cable providers are members of this group, we have decided to change our strategy.
I recommend you call your cable company and demand that they block Fox, PAX, and any station that shows racist, anti-freedom shows like, “The 700 Club”.

I guess you won't be watching '24' anytime soon, eh?

BTW, the "republican" president got blown out of the air last week.

You used to be a big Simpsons fan. Have you given that up?

D'oh!

Correction: Foxnews, not Fox.

I could never live without The Simpsons!

I'm a bit disappointed, Tom, that you haven't looked for the actual policy. I haven't been able to find the policy (my own personal policy is 'never forward anything on without checking it first'), but I have found things on the ncta.com website that show parents how to control TV's so their children don't have access to 'bad' channels.

The "Cable puts YOU in Control" link off of www.ncta.com takes you to http://controlyourtv.org/. If you then click "Control" you get to the section that states
: "Many cable set-top boxes allow you to block entire channels. More advanced digital set-top boxes may also allow you to block specific programming based on channel, time and date, rating, or title.

The TV ratings system provides information about the content of programs, and can be used in conjunction with the V-chip to automatically block unwanted programs.

Many cable companies will provide blocking technology at no additional charge for customers who don't have a set-top box or a V-chip equipped television set. Contact your local cable company for more information."

So this is, in fact, legit. If you're going to do this (I'm moving June 1st and will do it then) I suggest calling the cable company and asking, "How do I block a channel from my home? Does the company that owns the channel find out about it? How does it affect their ratings?". It's not going to do much to just block the channel if nobody's taking stats on that.
