The theme of this year's MLK, Jr Day, as set forth by The King Center is "Remember! Celebrate! Act! A Day On . . . Not A Day Off"

Last night (Sunday) I attended an annual MLK, Jr. Memorial Program sponsored by the African American Jewish Coalition (in Springfield, New Jersey). I attended with Ying, Yang and Yang's housemate, who I'm lj-nicking as Pang (just one letter different from her housemate). Yang is a member of one of the groups that sponsored the event.

Being neither black or Jewish, I found it really amazing to be in a Jewish temple hearing a Baptist preacher waxing eloquently about MLK, Jr. His keynote was awsome.

At one point a woman from the coalition sang the gospel song, "May the Work I've Done Speak for Me". She wasn't using a mic, yet her voice filled the entire room. I felt an electricity in my body that lasted nearly 30 minutes after the song ended. It was like God reaching out and touching me.

She made a point that for someone to go into action, you must find a calling, have a strategy, and do it with the spirit in you.

Lately I've been pretty lethargic about my activism. There are a number of "interesting" projects I could be working on, but none of them have really grabbed me. My project for this year is to find something that is a calling.
