Kerry had a different task than Bush; come across as a viable alternative to a reasonably likeable President with unpopular policies (he succeeded). Bush had to stop Kerry’s momentum and (after the first two debates) explain why Kerry is an unacceptable alternative (he failed).

Advantage Kerry.

I really appreciate it when someone is able to put into words something that’s been on my mind for a while this post on Kos was able to do exactly that:
