THE 'CLOSE DOOR' BUTTON ON THE ELEVATOR DOESN'T ACTUALLY DO ANYTHING.

IT JUST GIVES YOU SOMETHING TO DO WHILE WAITING FOR THE DOOR TO CLOSE ON ITS OWN.

PLEASE TAKE THIS INTO CONSIDERATION DURING FUTURE USE OF THE ELEVATORS.

Thank you.

Cecil Adams (author of the column The Straight Dope, published in the Boston Phoenix and other alternative newsweeklies) had a column about this.

Many CDBs work as installed, but since the elevator works just fine without them (eventually the door closes and the elevator moves anyway) repairing them isn't a priority.

The elevator doors in the building where my doctors' offices are do not close unless you push the @%*(# close button!!!

They are probably an exception ....

"Close door" buttons are like "walk" buttons. Sometimes they're just placebos and sometimes they actually have some electrical connection. Rarely is either actually useful, though.

although my current building doesn't even have a close door button on its elevators, I have actually worked places where the doors wouldn't close until someone hit the button.
