The Seattle Times today became the first paper to endorse Kerry -- “Four years ago, this page endorsed George W. Bush for president. We cannot do so again . . . Our endorsement of John Kerry is not without reservations, but he is head and shoulders above the incumbent.”
The Wall Street Journal finds that 50% of the electorate think the country is on the wrong track versus just 36% who say it’s on the right track (with the skew amongst uncommitted voters even wider).

Date: 2004-08-27 01:06 pm (UTC)Particularly interesting is this bit:
In our own industry, the Bush appointees on the Federal Communications Commission have pushed to relax restrictions on how many TV stations, radio stations and newspapers one company may own. In an industry that is the steward of the public's right to speak, this is a threat to democracy itself — and Kerry has stood up against it.
It's interesting because the Times would be the only game in town if they were not forced to collaborate with the P-I. At least that's my understanding of the issue (if someone else would like to jump in and clarify, that would be great).
Out here, West of the mountains is decidedly liberal, and East of the mountains is decidedly conservative. It should be interesting to see if papers in Spokane follow the Times or not.
