Steven Landsburg’s newest book is sort of like “Freakonomics” but written by someone that actually has a degree in economics. You can read an excerpt online.

To be honest, I’ve only read a few random samples of the book so far. I really enjoy what I’ve read (even when I’ve disagreed.)

What really inspired me to post to LJ is to relate that at one point he talks about whether or not computers make a person more productive. He comments, “especially if your screen is so crowded with instant-message windows that you can barely find your solitaire game.”

Buy it on Amazon.com today.

Ten years ago: Caller ID? Hell no! I’m gonna get it blocked! This is a total invasion of privacy!

Today: I refuse to order pizza delivery from that place until they get a caller-id system so I don’t have to repeat my address to them every time I call in an order.

The sad part is that we now go to the “not as good food, but they use my caller-id bits” place instead of the “great food, takes forever to place my order because they don’t have a CRM system that uses caller-id”.
