A bunch of people in NJ are trying to unseat Congressman Scott Garrett, the worst NJ representative in the U.S. House. He’s just plain mean. They were almost successful last time, but I have hope for next time.

Someone wrote this letter to the editor and the good congressman call him at his home to threaten him and encourage him to write a retraction.

The best quote in the letter is here:

The Right Honorable Representative Garrett, the Earl of Sussex, will vote against anything if it slows down Grover Norquist’s plan to “get (our government) down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub.” But I guess Garrett didn’t get the memo. Norquist’s plan just succeeded.
The national press has picked it up.

Update: I was contacted by the person that wrote the letter. He said that Garrett didn't "threaten" him, but "ask me to change my letter". I still think that's a rather ugly thing to do.

How many died in 9/11? 2749

We were told over and over. All the news was about the numbers... initial reports were “up to 50,000 people work in that building” and we were thankful when the numbers dropped, but angry when the

How many died in NOLA as a result of Katrina?

The Whitehouse has been extremely careful about steering anyone away from numbers. In fact, most mentions of any death disappeared once the Whitehouse woke up and started managing the PR side of things.

I want to say “they are brilliant that way” but then I realize, when you’ve got all the major networks in your pocket, how brilliant do you have to be?

So, does anyone have a number or estimate?

I got email from a friend who said...
My daughter Maddy (16) got an Apple iBook this past weekend. We’ve been having trouble setting up the wireless connection, so I opened up a “terminal” window and typed commands. Maddy was intrigued. I typed a command and got an error message back. Maddy said, “Did the computer just talk back to you?”

I said, “yes.”

She said, “This is like having an IM conversation with the computer!”

So I couldn’t decide if I should bid $5 or $10 on something. I decided $10, but my fingers decided to “mix it up” and typed $50.

And then I wasn’t paying attention and clicked “confirm”.

Well, I won the bid. Luckily I was the highest bidder at $2.50. If the seller knew what I had done, he could have placed a bid for $49.99 on this item and I would have been completely ripped off.

Tom will now write on the chalk board 100 times, “I will read what it says before I click CONFIRM.”

It’s the perfect pick for Bush. Exactly in line with everything he’s ever done. So predictable, I could never have predicted it. :)
